Janaki Patrik has been a friend from my New York City days and has always been a faithful interpreter of the Kathak tradition of Pandit Birju Maharaj's lineage. Her quiet elegance and commitment have been qualities that I have always admired. Her many decades of learning, teaching, performing and watching classical and contemporary dance in a global city like New York has shaped her philosophy of dance and life.
