Impressions Nirikshana: Day 4 - Ayana Perla e-mail: ayanaperla@gmail.com December 31, 2019 Indira Kadambi The day started off with 'Bequest of Kalanidhi Narayanan,' a performance by Indira Kadambi as part of Legacy Lights. The Padams, Javalis and an Ashtapadi was woven beautifully according to the maturity of each Nayika. There was balance of bitterness and sarcasm along with a touch of humour. The audience of each age level were able to connect with the character. Such an enriching kickstart to the day! It was followed by 'Dance Memories of a Nation: The Mohan Khokar Dance Collection' by Ashish Khokar. Never felt more proud for being an Indian dancer ever before - of tradition, the lineages, the legends, and so many more aspects rooted in India. Who would have thought of documenting each moment of dance, a few dating back to pre independent India. Navia Natarajan, Praveen Kumar, Janaki Rangarajan, Lavanya Ananth (Photo: Lalitha Venkat) It is impossible to tell which was the most interesting session because each session was intense and so relatable. 'Transparent Critiquing: A dynamic session' was definitely one intense session. All the four dancers, renowned and appreciated for their domains in dance, projected their take on 'ask a question' and left us all with a thought. Most interesting was the way the audience backed up for Dr. Janaki Rangarajan in a discussion with her critic Veejay Sai. Now that's called a dancers' community! With 'Play Ball' by Nina Rajarani Dance Creations, everyone had a "ball of a time." The football match depicted through a Thillana shall remain in our hearts. Ayana Perla is a student of Guru Sharadamani Shekhar (Mangaluru) and Dr. Rajashree Warrior (Thiruvananthapuram). |
