November 28, 2007

Center for Music and Dance, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, under the Chairmanship of Prof.(Dr) G Balamohan Thambi (Former Vice Chancellor, Kerala University)  had instituted the KALANIDHI title and award to performing artistes above 60 years of age only. They select artiste couples of eminence by a special jury. The backbone of this 23 year old institution are Sushama Subramaniyan and her husband Kaniyampuzha Subramaniyan.

This is the fifth year they are honouring deserving artistes without any political or social pressure or tag attached to the function. His Highness Marthanda Varma, Maharaja of Thiruvananthapuram, has been the sole presiding dignitary to disburse this title and award which lend a serenity and dignity to the function.
