In her heyday, K. Bhanumathi presented varnams for as long as four hours.

On one occasion, when K. Bhanumathi was about to give a recital in Tirukaalavasam near Thiruvarur, she was stung by a scorpion in her heel. A local priest applied an antidote but she was still limping when she got on the stage. She did present a recital omitting the varnam and nobody knew she was in pain.

A rare handwritten letter from Sivananda Nattuvanar, one of the Tanjore Quartet, complains to Shivaji II that the East India Company authorities were preventing him from teaching Bharatanatyam and Kathak. It is said that the Thanjavur Quartet brothers are depicted in a painting of a dancing scene in the Mallapa Nayaka mantapam.
