By dancing non stop for 24 hours in 1985, Kuchipudi dancer Sarala Kumari has gotten into the Guinness Book of Records. She chose 3 artistes and four musicians to accompany her in turns. She performed the 3 hour ballet Karpoora Vasantaraya, the 2 ½ hour ballet Alamelumanga Vilasam apart from 24 solo items. Hundreds including the then vice president R Venkataraman and Governor Shankar Dayal Sharma witnessed the program.

Apart from Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, Yamini Krishnamurthy also excelled in Odissi, training first under Pankaj Charan Das of Puri temple and later with Kelucharan Mohapatra.

Yamini Krishnamurthy was the youngest recipient of the Padma Shri Award at the age of 28.

Sitara Devi has starred a few films starting with Niranjan Sharma's “Usha Haran” in 1934. She went on to act in other films like 'Al Hilal', 'Najma', 'Watan', 'Aaj ka Hindustan', 'Pagal', 'Dhiraj', 'Lekh' and 'Duk Sukh'.

E Krishna Iyer, noted Bharatanatyam critic and impresario, lawyer turned activist and a Bharatanatyam dancer himself, acted in the film 'Sairandhiri'. He played the role of Brhannala – Arjuna in disguise as a eunuch in King Virata's court – and danced a classical number and created history.
