Agreed Outstanding performances do convert even people without taste.
But don't such performances need to be watched live. How many of these
100,000+ people will leave their homes, use a transport and pay to watch
a recital?
You tube is propaganda organ. Not a performance venue. It is also educational
in the sense it has some sensible theory and experiments that can be watched.
It can in fact as a medium for "amateurish dancers" to pick a few moves.
Also in my opinion "mediocre" recitals are a missionary in their own
way. First of all most kids learn to be on stage- to perform. Not many
realize that not all students are meant to be performers.A few can turn
into serious rasikas later on. So that way, the students themselves and
their parents are at least given an initiation into the art form. That way
even the you tube is our propaganda pal. But organizers and teachers should
curtail these shows and educate the audience enough realize that this is
amateurish and not what really a good show is like. Otherwise it definitely
can put away a newly introduced rasika. Hence all the more need to have
good artistes performing.
