Namaste Chandra, Thanks so much for talking about this but i think it is better to not name any names...

I am able to understand that teachers try to level out students. You are so right. I am not sure that is the right approach for the Art. I think the goal for the teachers has become provide all stduents opportunities. Then the whole show becomes dance by average dancers. The truly talented cannot shine like this.
But I also believe that all students deserve to be taught the same lessons. don't you?

Also, what would you do if you were a teacher earning a living out of teaching? Would you stop teaching others because you have taught a star student? You will naturally search for other stars. Or you will try to bring up students who will never make it to the great dancers list but will enjoy dance and make a good audience some day.

I think that the mediocrity will be / has to be filtered out by the audience / by the dancer herself or by the parents by self introspection, not by the teacher...

The truly talented students of any teacher will be 'happy' dancing. They may not get all the recognition they may deserve. Pursuing 'success' requires a whole other level of talent. Mere dance will not do. We all know that.
