Off late, people are discussing the value of paying musicians and the teachers. Most of the time, it is found out it is exorbitant. The fact lies in two phases. One - either work of the teacher is not respected as per his skill set in par with the local teachers OR teachers fees are really too high.
In USA, the average fee for a dance teacher should be in par with any artistic teacher such as a good Piano teacher. (Normally these rates are from $30 - $60 an hour). Since the teacher have to focus only on one student instead of five or six in a group class, it will be justifiable to charge a premium rates. It all depends on individual parents, how they would want the arangetrams to be done. As in the case of musician also, the rates for the musicians should be paid based on their availability of service. If a student and parent are expecting three musicians to work with them for 40 hours a week (which is five days including the arangetram day), it would be normal to compensate them for their value and work.
This will become expensive, because of these reason. Also, the parent and studnet must understand that no one is forcing to do an arangetram.
I am just talking in terms of USA. I know, it should be a matter of economics. One cannot be even thinking of the same in Indian context. Meanwhile, the parents in USA should not be thinking of treating of less labour costs, when people from India arrive for their children, leaving their family. I know money matters, I have very good musicians who have come for us for a very reasonable rates. It is all in communication.
I wish goodluck to all the parents. It is in the best interest of the dance student to get a live music, as it can explore the un-imaginable length of creativity only with musicians. If one does not need creativity they can always go with recorded music. Musicians are not bane, they are expensive but very useful.
