Dear readers: THIS is the volatility that I have been waiting for on narthaki.com!
Ramaa wrote a beautiful and humorous piece about her very subjective response in watching Bragha's performance. I too am a fan of Bragha but watched with disappointment one of her Indian-American students try to portray one of her "taught" javalis at a Chennai concert a few months ago. It failed. It just did not work. So, while the attempt has to be made and the process undergone, it is fully within the right of the viewer to express herself, thus locating Bharatanatyam in the complex socio-cultural milieu that it lives in.
Just keep those intelligent commments pouring in!
