Hi everyone. If you would, I want like to jump into this disscussion. My point of view is from the U.S. As far as the issue of low payments and dance, it is true that any artist life is hard and the modern society it's very hard nearly impossible to expect much monetary gain from giving performances. As some of you may know I am not an Indian but Bharata Natyam is a very strong passion of mine. For a long time, it has been my dream to become a professional soloist since I have been studying Bharata Natyam since the age of six. I have come to realize that that is not a very realisitic goal. Let me get to the point, basically, if anyone wants to be a dancer, that's perfectly fine and I've come to the conclusion that it can be part of a main career but not the major sourse of income. One really has to either connect dance to some job like teaching or something realted and perform on the side in order to make it. For me, I just dance because I love it and I don't look for monetary gain when performing. That's really the only way to go at least in the U.S. Sorry for such a long explanation.
