 I quite agree that educated "Westerners" much prefer things "traditional" than not. Actually, it is not so much "educated" but the Westerners who are highly intellectual/have highly developed aesthetic taste. But even this is not enough: the underlying reason for certain "educated Westerners" to turn to the classical Indian dance is because of their spiritual seeking.

As for semi-classical dance, you know, the evolution is a continous thing that has created a number of transitional beings from apes to humans.
