ANITA SAYS.....
My mistakes are my life.
- Samuel Beckett
Irish novelist and playwright
How many of us can say this? I saw this quotation printed on a tote bag
in a quaint bookstore in Dublin, Ireland. It struck me, that could be
the title of my memoir. The many, many mistakes along my journey - each
becoming a teaching moment. The missed opportunities, the bungled
collaborations, the stubborn ideas that I refused to push aside, the
arrogant assumptions and presumptions, the stumbles, lurches and falls.
Each embarrassing. Some in plain sight. Others, thankfully, hidden away.
All papered over for the mask that is worn for the world that only
wants to see what it wishes. Yet, it is through my mistakes that I have
come to this moment.
So, can I just change the mood with a good old Texan welcome?

THE EASTERN EYE: Column
by Dr.Utpal K Banerjee
Parallel streams - creative and classical
In the span of one month, two opposite polarities of ensemble dancing
surfaced in the eastern metropolis. At one end, a group avowedly known
for its contemporary credo. At the other end was a well recognized body
of corporate excellence, known for its running of successful whole night
music and dance soirees for decades.
Warped world vs. youth power
Baijayantika, a play recently presented by Sudrak, takes off on the
story-line from Achalayatan and situates it in the contemporary context
of Visva Bharati, Santiniketan, with the cardinal focus being retained
around Tagore's creative oeuvre.

SOCH: Column by Dr. Arshiya Sethi
The buzz around the dance of the bee
Scientists tell us that there are basically two types of bee dances: the
round dance and the tail-wagging or waggle dance, with a transitional
form known as the sickle dance.
DANCE MATTERS: Column by Ashish Mohan Khokar
A tale of two cities and more!
August brought flood and fury - not just the real watery one but
metaphorical too. The anger against SNA awards this year resonated
in magazines, editorials (including in narthaki) and of course on the
social media.
Of Teachers and the Taught
My own schooling at Delhi's Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is the chief reason I
am what I am today. Total education in arts, science, commerce,
culture, love for history, geography, debate, dance.

The Bharathanatomy Series: Anatomical Movements and Directions
- Sneha Rajagopalan
Traditionally, "araimandi" used to be a very comfortable sitting posture
and "natyarambha" related movements used to be fluid and effortless.
This was considered beautiful and graceful in those days, to the then
perhaps only audience; the respective deities of the temples.
