First showing of PADME
Group Choreography by KALPANA RAGHURAMAN
After ten years of working on solo productions, Ratnam returned to
ensemble work and quilts her maturing vision of parallel mythologies
with Indian dance and modern movement dynamics. UTPALA was first
premiered in 2003 and was based on the narratives of Egypt, India and
China. Invited guest choreographer Kalpana Raghuraman from Netherlands
has set two sections on the group from her acclaimed work PADME, also
based on the similar idea of the lotus. The 8 Bangalore based dancers
were all selected from an audition process held in September 2013 and
this was the very first public viewing of some sections at the Dance
DISCourse presented by Ashish Mohan Khokar and ATTENDANCE.
