NATIONAL SEMINAR ON GAUDIYA NRITYA

A two day NATIONAL SEMINAR ON GAUDIYA NRITYA was organized by the Asiatic Society of Bengal at the Vidyasagar Hall, of the Society at 1 Park Street,  
Calcutta, on the 9th and 10th of Feb. 2002. Professor B.N.Mukherjee, Former Charmichael Professor of History, Calcutta University delivered the Keynote Address. The Conference was inaugurated by Dr.R.Nagaswamy, FounderTrustee of the Natyanjali Trust of Chidambaram. He outlined the contact Bengal had with Tamil from ancient times, especially the Gauda music and dance in temples as mentioned in Agamic literature. Dr Manabendu Banerjee, General Secretary of the Asiatic Society welcomed the delegates.  

Eminent dance Acharyas, dance exponents and students of Rabindra Bharati University and others participated. Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, the exponent of Gaudiya nritya coordinated the conference. The proceedings of the seminar are likely to appear shortly in book form.
