Sruti Foundation honors three awardees March 24, 2005 |

The Sruti
Foundation honored three prominent personalities on 15th March at the Dakshinamuthi
Auditorium in Chennai. KV Ramanathan, Editor-in-Chief, Sruti
and a Trustee, welcomed the august gathering. The E Krishna Iyer Medal
was presented to Bharatanatyam Guru K J Sarasa. The Vellore Gopalachariar
Award (instituted by mridanga vidwan Vellore Ramabhadran in memory of his
father) was given to Carnatic musician and teacher P S Narayanaswamy. The
M. Venkatakrishnan Memorial Award (instituted by Ramaa Bharadvaj, Director
of Angahara Ensemble in California, USA) was presented to Mrs. Y G Parthasarathy.
The awards
were presented by M Subramaniam, Chairman, Board of Trustees of The Sruti
Foundation, K V Ramanathan and Vellore Ramabhadran. The awardees
were felicitated by Bharatanatyam guru C V Chandrasekhar, eminent musician
S Rajam and dancer choreographer Anita Ratnam. The awards-giving ceremony
was followed by ‘Abhinaya-Geetam’ in which senior Bharatanatyam exponent
Nirmala Ramachandran sang padams and javalis with abhinaya. The program
was compered by S Janaki, Deputy Editor, Sruti. The invocation
was sung by Gayatri Sundaresan, Assistant Editor. P S Narayanan,
a Trustee and Publisher, Sruti proposed the vote of thanks.
