Kalyani Kane, a rising artiste of Pune, staged a dance drama  ‘MUKTA’ on 3rd of January 2004 Saturday at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha, Pune and on 13th of February 2004 at Bharat Natya Mandir, Pune. Based on a Marathi epic, ‘Mukta’ reveals various features of the life of Saint Meerabai. ‘Mukta’ is a Marathi Kavya written by Smt. Meera Tarlekar of Belgaum. Several awards in the world of Marathi literature have honored ‘Mukta’. Though this topic is not untouched, the dance-drama flows along with a different path of choreography.

Kalyani being a Bharatanatyam student for last 12 years is also an excellent performer and a brilliant choreographer. She has performed on various occasions and choreographed many classical as well as semi-classical items. She has won first prize in All India Choreography Competition (Mumbai). She has put the best of her efforts and knowledge for the success of this production.

This dance-drama was presented by a group of 25 dancers, including Kalyani's students and colleagues. In the first half of the program, Kalyani with her co-artistes presented a Bharatanatyam recital including Pushpanjali, Varnam, Navarasa. Kalyani’s student Gauri - a special child - presented an item. Gauri’s presentation would be an introduction of Kalyani’s talent as a dance- therapist.

Pune’s top technicians contributed the best of their knowledge for lights, stage-décor and last but not the least music arrangements. Mr. Ashish Keskar of (Orion Studios, Pune) has done a great job in music arranging and recording. Director of Daimler-Chrysler-India (Mercedes Benz) Mr. Mallier will grace this occasion as a chief guest.

Kalyani aspires to present many shows of  ‘Mukta’ at various dance-festivals. ‘Mukta’ was highly appreciated by the audience of Pune, which is the cultural capital of Maharashtra.
