Session 2 of SappTop Series featured the world renowned band PUULUUP from Estonia with Sapphire dancers jamming and creating a unique collaboration with the idea that 'art connects boundaries' presented by Sapphire Creations Dance Company and Vedic Village and Spa Resorts on 2nd October at the Vedic premises.

Puuluup is a multiple awards winning band and one of the most famous Estonian musicians. They play traditional Estonian string instrument talharpas with a bunch of electronics and loops, pushing obscure folk material towards the mainstream with a whole lot of panache. The music of Puuluup has influences from folk, punk, klezmer, African gospel, Sahel music, hip-hop and even R&B. The lyrics are mostly rather abstract, and are to set the mood and are open to different interpretations. Puuluup has played in many countries from Chile to Taiwan and now was the time to discover India.

From September 23 to October 3, Puuluup gave seven concerts in different cities and states: Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi, Gurugram, Ziro Festival in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and Kolkata. The tour was supported by the Ministry of Culture of Estonia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, the foundation 'Eesti Kultuur Maailmas', Music Estonia and by several Indian partners.

Sapptop Series is an attempt to recreate the same energy of its studio space in Sapphire in such other premises which blurs the boundaries of the performer and the audience giving an insight to both the process and the outcome of 'creating art'. Session 2 of this series therefore took in this collaborative presentation of an international Nordic music band and Contemporary dancers who interacted and negotiated with their own forms, meeting for the first time. The fragility and vulnerability of the moment itself becomes precious for the audience to experience where the artists allow the spectators to access their 'personal' space of such interventions. Puuluup played their original songs/music and at the same time conversed with the dancers and the audience making it an immersive performative expression.

Curated by Sudarshan Chakravorty, the Sapphire dancers were Promita Karfa, Bijoy Sharma, Abrar Saqib and Rathin Das. The costumes were by Bobo.
