Live the Moment - Manisha Khaund Das April 23, 2020 The world has come to a standstill with the current pandemic, COVID-19, affecting lives all over the world. Most parts of the globe are completely shut down. The economy is crashing and the environment around us has become all the more hostile and vulnerable. With the constant strain and anxiety looming around, people are stressed and it is something which was expected out of such a situation. As a society, we cannot escape this situation. The only way is to come to terms with it and move on. Given the current scenario, the movement of 'Live the Moment' was initiated by 'Satkara - Unleashing the Spirit of Sattriya' on 3rd April 2020. The Founder and President, Meenakshi Medhi, spearheaded the initiative and has been successful in bringing together artistes from various backgrounds onto one platform. The main aim of 'Live the Moment' is to continue with the performances on screen, making it available on our desktops and mobile phones, and spread wellbeing and positivity at a time of complete distress. It also aims to provide a platform for upcoming Indian classical dance artistes to flourish in their respective arts. Oonmona Das Shatabdi Mallick Anannya Mahanta Pritam Das Artistes belonging to various Indian classical traditions have performed thus far. The series was inaugurated with a Sattriya performance by Anannya Mahanta. The second artist was Shruthipriya Ravi, a Bharatnatyam dancer. In the subsequent sessions we saw performances by Avinav Mukharji (Kathak), Oonmona Das (Sattriya), Pritam Das (Bharatanatyam), Shatabdi Mallick (Odissi) and Simran Kaur (Sattriya). The performances are held every alternate day on the official Facebook page of Satkara from 7pm onwards and every presentation is 30 to 40 minutes long. It is commendable how the artistes have converted their living areas into spaces for live performances. The sessions in addition to entertaining us with lively performances is also quite informative, as each artiste has quite beautifully described their styles and pieces for the audience to connect on a deeper level. It is noteworthy to mention that the purpose of 'Live the Moment' has successfully reached its audience base and has been growing since then, with more diverse artistes uniting together, lining up for future performances. |
