9th reunion of Rabindra Bharati dance department alumni

The 9th Reunion of the Alumni Association of the Dance Dept., Rabindra Bharati University was held at Jora Sanko Thakur Barhi on 24th Feb, The Alumni Day. It was started with an introductory speech by Prof. Abhijit Roy, Secretary of the Alumni Association followed by garlanding the statue of Rabindranath Tagore by V.R. Venkitt, HOD of the Dance Dept, RBU. After that, a colourful procession with Tagore songs took place to reach Uday Shankar Hall of RBU, Jora Sanko.

The seminar started with the participation of new dance scholars Poulomi Basu and Rupa Chakravortty on Kathak dance, Mitali Roy on general study of dance. The main speaker was Prof. Goutam Nag on ‘The role of Geeta Govinda and Padaboli Kirtana in the field of dance.’ The seminar was conducted by Prof. Laily Basu, Vice President of the Alumni Association.

The seminar was followed by the felicitation of dance personalities Alokananda Roy and Naresh Kumar by Prof. Srilekha Mukhopadhyay, President of the Alumni Association. The chief guest was Prof. Pallab Sengupta, President, Asiatic Society Kolkata. Eminent Kathak dance guru Rani Karna was the special guest of the festival.

Solo dance recitals were presented by Somali Roy (Kathak), Atreyee Sengupta (Kuchipudi),  Manab Paroi (Kathak) and Sucharita Datta (Kathak). Group performances were headed by Ramkrishna Chatterjee, Kreshnendu Majumdar, Malay Bhattachariya, Sugata Das, Moly Roy and Rajdeep Banerjee. The festival concluded with the vote of thanks given by Sugata Das, Asst Secretary of the association.
