From Bangalore to Jaipur via Mumbai May 29, 2013 Bangalore based Nritarutya Dance Trust performed at The Taj, Mumbai on April 19, 2013. The company staged a contemporary dance musical “Shakuntala” based on the namesake epic by poet Kalidasa. The musical was conceptualised and choreographed by Mayuri Upadhya. With 50 artistes, the epic was retold with Indian Contemporary Dance. Music for the choreography was composed by Praveen D Rao. The set was designed by critically acclaimed designer Omung Kapur and produced by Jasjeet. While Kapil Bhalla and team beautified the artistes, the costumes were conceptualised by Mayuri herself and brought to life by Bipin Tanna and team. Sridhar Murthy created the props and Lloyd and Arun Murthy handled the lights while the aerial rigging was by Mumbai based Natura Adventure Crew. Bollywood starlet Rani Mukherjee enacted the lead role of Shakuntala with aplomb. Nritarutya opened designer Vikram Phadnis’ collection at the Rajasthan Fashion Week held at Jaipur. It was another memorable performance. Choreographed by Madhuri Upadhya, the dancers performed on the theme of ‘Woman Empowerment’.  The dancers also walked the ramp with children for the finale of the collection.
