Vivacious Janane Sethunarayanan

January 21, 2013

A vibrant Janane Sethunarayanan impressed the audience with impeccable nritta and convincing nrithya, with apt araimandi poses to the choreography of Guru Anitha Guha in Sivagami Petachi Auditorium, under the aegis of Brahma Gana Sabha on 17th January.

The recital opened with an invocation on Shiva in Mohanam set to Kanda nadai rendered beautifully by Hari Prasad with Anitha Guha wielding the cymbals. The centre piece in Vachaspati, Velanidam poi solladi by T Sethuraman with a very brief sanchari on Valli kept the audience glued to their seats. There was not a single dull moment throughout and the abhinaya bore evidence of the maturity of the artiste. One could understand Janane getting the coveted Lakshmi Vishwanathan Award for abhinaya from Krishna Gana Sabha in 2012. Muruga riding on the peacock gracefully could have been more aptly depicted in Chathusram in the place of Kandam which is generally used for valour.

The krithi of Saint Thyagarja Vadana dyuthi jitha in Panthuvarali taken in madyama sruthi by Hari Prasad was the next interesting piece extolling the virtues of Rama. The performance concluded with the evergreen Kadanakudugalam thillana of Dr. Balamuralikrishna.

Percussionist Ram Shankar Babu added colour to the recital. Violinist was Muruganandam and Ramesh was the flautist. With more opportunities coming her way, young Janane is sure to go places.
