Mangalore based Bharatanatyam artiste Radhika Shetty presented Nrithya Sandhya recently in the town with the help of her guru Sharadamani Shekhar and other eminent gurus with whom she has undergone training. Radhika could involve the audience through various graceful abhinaya oriented items very efficiently.

The event was inaugurated by Sri Ananthakrishna, the non executive chairman of Karnataka  Bank. In his inaugural speech, he requested the media to give equal importance to cultural events along with other political/sports/crime news. Nrithya Sandhya began with an invocatory item Panthanjali Kauthvam which described the magnanimity and grandeur of Lord Nataraja at Chidambaram. Next was a Ganapathi Stuti called Ganesha Pahimam. Rajarajeshvari Ashtakam portrayed the divine beauty of Goddess Rajarajeshvari.

Ragamalike Padavarna Neelamegha Shyama Sundarana penned in Kannada by G Gurumurthy and music composed by Balasubrahmanya Sharma was elaborate and touching. Incorporating navarasa from Krishna’s life events was refreshing. Purandaradasa krithi Intha hennanu nanellu kanenu narrated the stories of Vishnu’s incarnation as Mohini. Jayadeva’s ashtapadi Mamiyam chalitha and Mangalam were the concluding pieces of the recital.

Guru Sharadamani Shekhar of Sanatana Natyalaya, Mangalore, rendered the nattuvangam. The ensemble of Balasubrahmanya Sharma on vocal support, Janardhan on mridangam and Nithish Ammannaya on flute was very pleasing.
