Shashikala Ravi releases DVD titled The Dance of Shiva

Bharatanatyam artiste Shashikala Ravi of Pune has released a DVD titled THE DANCE OF SHIVA. The DVD is produced and released by Swathi Solutions as a part of their Sanskriti Series. The Dance of Shiva is an exploration of some of the cosmic dances of Lord Shiva, more situational in its aspect - when, where and why it took place. It is a solo dance ballet choreographed by Shashikala Ravi in Ragamalika and Talamalika. All the lyrics and images used are from the book Shiva Thandavangal written by the Gnanacheri Swami Sri Sadashiva Bramendrar of Chennai.

The official release of the DVD took place on 11th July in Pune at Shashikala's Amritanjali Dance Studio. She gave a live performance of THE DANCE OF SHIVA to mark the event. Yogini Gandhi, the renowned Kathak and Odissi dancer from Pune was the Chief Guest and Dr. Sucheta Chapekar, the well known Bharatanatyam dancer from Pune was the Guest of Honour. The program was also attended by other well known Bharatanatyam dancers and musicians from Pune.

Shashikala Ravi is the founder director of Amritanjali School of Bharatanatyam in Pune. She is a student of late Guru Swarna Saraswathy of Bharatanatya Academy, Delhi and Kalanidhi Narayan, Chennai. She has been trained in Carnatic vocal music by her mother, Thanga Varadarajan. She is an empanelled artiste with ICCR, a graded artiste with Doordarshan and a member of International Dance Council, UNESCO. She has performed widely in India and abroad. She is currently doing her PhD in Bharatanatyam.
