Koodiyattam at the Festival of Intangible Heritage April 16, 2010 Natana Kairali's
Koodiyattam troupe led by G Venu, participated in the Festival of Asia
Pacific Intangible Cultural Heritage 2010 in Jeonju, the traditional cultural
city of South Korea. The festival was conducted for creating a space to
re-enact and transmit diverse types of traditional cultures in the Asia
Pacific regions, said the organisers in a statement released during the
festival. 'We took efforts to invite Koodiyattam which is a valuable intangible
cultural heritage of humanity registered in UNESCO as well as the representative
of India for creating a new opportunity of sharing with the intangible
cultural heritage of Asian countries,' said Mr. Song Ha Jin, Mayor of Jeonju
City, in his welcome speech.
The troupe also performed at Seoul under the auspices of Asian Performing Arts Institute established by Dr. Dong Sung Huh and conducted a workshop for the students of the Dance Department of the Korean University of Arts. Dr. Yung Il Hur, an eminent dance historian, interviewed Koodiyattam maestro G Venu for the Archives of the Dance Department. The six member Koodiyattam troupe included Sooraj Nambiar, Potiyil Ranjith Chakyar, Kalamandalam Rajeev, Kalamandalam Hariharan and Kalanilayam Haridas. |
