A ten day choreography
conclave and workshop was organised by Padatik, Kolkata and facilitated
by Ranan, Kolkata. The sessions were moderated and supervised by one senior
choreographer daily who worked on the 20 young participant dancers on a
range of warm up and choreographic motifs.
Among the choreographers
invited were Navtej Johar, Padmini Chettur, Anita Ratnam, Kumudini Lakhia,
Madhavi Mudgal, Ramli Ibrahim and Uttara Coorlawalla. Each choreographer
attempted to set a short 4 minute work on the dancers to show the range
of movement and ideas that were shared with them through the ten day event.
Odissi dancer Sharmila Biswas and Manipuri artiste Priti Patel worked alongside
Chetna Jalan of Padatik to host and organize the wide range of activities
and interactions with the dancers and visiting choreographers.
The photos
are glimpses of the final informal presentation that was staged at the
lovely ICCR auditorium on Ho Chi Minh Road in Kolkata on Friday June 5.
