Kalapradarshini's
dance tribute to Ghantasala

Kalapradarshini's
10th anniversary celebration was dedicated to late Ghantasala Venkateshwara
Rao, the legendary singer. His daughter-in-law Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala
choreographed and performed for his popular songs along with 75 students
of Kalapradarshini, on July 6, 2008 at the Music Academy, Chennai.
From Pushpanjali to Thillana, all were vintage songs by Ghantasala.
It was a challenging
task to set to dance, the unforgettable songs of 1965 from various movies.
Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala realized her dream when the performance proved
worthy of all the hard work and practice put in by the entire troupe.
The items
performed were Pushpanjali (film Gundamma Katha), Jai Gana Natha (film
Narthanashala), Krishna Mukuntha (film Panduranga Mahathyam), Shiva Shankari
(film Jagadaeka Veervai Katha), Edukundalavada Tirumala dirivasa (Rahasyam),
Seshasela (film Sri Venkateshwara Mahamyam), Pandipotu (Folk dance), Swarna
Manjari (Rave), Dinakara (Vinaya Chavathi), Ashtapathi (Theera sameere),
Thenulavudhe (Manalane Magaiyin Bakkiyam), Thillana (CID).
The program
concluded with a musical treat by Sharat Chandra and troupe from Hyderabad,
again a dance tribute to Ghantasala's music.
The documentary
on Ghantasala featured minute details on the singer's life, comments from
celebrities, film clippings and melodious old songs.
