Sri Sumukhi
Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation celebrated the Fifth Year Anniversary
and the commemoration of the second year of Kala Poshakam Utsav on February
3, 2008, at Sri Dakshinamurthy Auditorium in Chennai. On this occasion,
the Mylapore Trio (S Amarnath, S Surendranath and S Aparna) and members
of the Foundation offered their salutations to the doyens of dance and
music, by conferring titles and awards.
"Aachaarya
Devo Bhava" (Lifetime Achievement Award) was awarded to Bharatanatyam guru
Nirmala Ramachandran, (Director - Nirmalaniketan), "Nrithya Saraswathi"
to Bharatanatyam guru Anitha Guha – (Director – Bharathanjali) and "Gaana
Saraswathi" to Radha Badri (musician).
The chief
guest was Cleveland V V Sundaram. Guest of honour, Gomathi Sundaram presented
the awards and appreciated the efforts of the foundation in inculcating
cultural values among children. Revathy Sankkaran spoke about the activities
of the Foundation. The specialty of the trophies were - gold coated copper
temple kalasam for "Aachaarya Devo Bhava" and gold coated copper Vairamudi
Kireetam for "Nrithya / Gaana Saraswathi" with a citation.
The program
started with recitation of Pancharathna Kritis by Lakshmi Krishnaswamy
and students of Skanda Gana Vidhyalaya. Radha Badri gave a mellifluous
Carnatic vocal concert followed by a fascinating Bharatanatyam recital
by Sasha Dennissova, Russian disciple of guru Nirmala Ramachandran. The
“Brahmam” awardee children of the Foundation presented a cultural program.
The function
was attended by academicians, stalwarts and rasikas from various fields. |
