V Marghazhi Bala Utsavam - 2007

The 'Mylapore Trio' of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation celebrated the Fifth Margazhi Bala Utsavam, an exclusive five day Children's Festival on 20th, 21st, 26th, 27th and 28th Jan. 2007, at RK Swami Auditorium, Mylapore, Chennai. There were totally 20 events (competitions and participation) including a special Culture Quiz for Mother and Child, Mehandi apart from classical dance, music and other arts. About 920 children from 2 to 23 years of age took part in this festival. 
Awardees of the V Margazhi Bala Utsavam on 26th Jan
The highlight of this Utsav was the Special Brahmam Award Function on Friday, 26th Jan. 2007. Chief guest Leela Shekar, Chairperson of International Dance Alliance, Chennai, conferred the Bushan, Vibushan and Brahmam Awards and spoke on the importance of cultural values and dress code among children and parents. She also blessed the 'Mylapore Trio' in their mission to promote, propagate and revive values among the younger generation. Incidentally this year, all the awardees hail from Mylapore. She conferred the Guru Brahmam (for Lifetime Achievement in Academics) Title & Award on Dr. Nirmala Thyagarajan, M S (Tenn. USA), Ph.D, M.Ed., Retd. Joint Director, Collegiate Education, Chennai Region, Govt. of Tamilnadu. Former Principal, Queen Mary's College, Chennai, she also presented the R Nagammal "Swarna Kalas” Rolling Trophy (2 feet gold coated temple kalasam) to Skanda Gana Vidyalaya, Mylapore, for participating in large numbers, which was received by its Guru Lakshmi Krishnaswami.

On Saturday 27th Jan, Chief Guest, Prof. T K Srinivasan and Rajeshwari (connoisseurs of Fine Arts) graced the Visesha Arangam and blessed the participants of that day. They addressed a large gathering and stressed on the importance of Indian culture and heritage. 
  
The Valedictory Function was on Sunday 28th Jan. Chief Guest G Rangarajan, Chief Manager, Indian Bank (Mylapore) presided over and distributed certificates and medals to all participants, apart from various prizes including Talent, Multi-Talent and Outstanding Prizes. There was overwhelming response from children, parents, teachers, institutions and public at large.
