"When language fails in describing our emotions, dance steps forward."
- Edwaard Liang (Choreographer)

"I feel, amidst all the distractions of contemporary life, if we can
cultivate the discipline, focus, sensitivity, tenacity and perseverance
in our dance education and practice, then the evolution of an authentic
performative self will indeed take place."
- Jayachandran Palazhy

Dance is truly the longest and most stable relationship I've ever had.
She has been there for me during my highest of highs and my lowest of
lows. She can make me cry or make me laugh, and I truly feel like I was
put on this earth to learn as much as I can from her. For that, I am
forever grateful. I cannot stop learning, I cannot stop moving, and I
cannot stop dancing. That is why I dance. Period.

Creator, shares her lifelong relationship with dance,' Dance Magazine,

"In the world of the performing arts, no presentation remains static
after its premiere, because there is no end to creativity and no limits
to perfection."

"The younger generation has diverse tastes and preferences, leading to
increased interest in ensemble works over solo performances and a desire
for topics that resonate with contemporary concerns. Artistes, in
response, must adapt their art forms to stay relevant to these evolving
interests. As the world changes, so too must the arts evolve to continue
captivating and engaging audiences, young and old alike."

"Dance is important for health-for mental health, physical health, emotional health."
- Naomi Goldberg Haas, founder of Dances for a Variable Population

"When a choreographer displays a dance, it's up to each spectator to
choose where to look, and how much to take in of the action spread
across the stage. When that same choreographer allows her work to be
filmed, however, the cinematographer makes that decision, directing the
viewer's eye to the choices made with the lens."

"Creating work for children is hard but also the beauty is when they
see the truth, they will go silent. And then you know that they have
changed, in some way."
(Akram Khan in ‘A sacred confluence’ by Akhila Krishnamurthy, Open magazine, Feb 3, 2023)

"Working on camera is like another art form. It's like you were
playing basketball your whole life and then someone asked you to play
the violin."

"Profound art, deep art, it can change people. And I always say,
change happens in four different seasons. The first one is, people
change when they hurt enough that they have to. Secondly, people change
when they see enough that they're inspired to. Thirdly, people change
when they learn enough that they want to. And the fourth one is, people
change when they receive enough that they are able to.
So in dance, you feel that you're in the process of change.
Something is changing every day. And perhaps for a moment if it connects
with one audience, it'll also change them profoundly."
- Akram Khan (On FB, May 11, 2023)

"If you stop moving, you will age and you will feel it. If you don't stop moving, you'll still age, but you won't feel it."
- Christine Colby Jacques (dancer and educator)

"Dancing is like bank robbery. It takes split second timing."
- Twyla Tharp

"Dance for yourself. If someone understands, good. If not, no matter."
- Louis Horst

"I am consciously looking at the outside from the inside. When I
create material for work, I am always asking myself the 'what' question;
'What is it that I want to tackle in my work'; honestly, almost always
the 'what' tends to be universal because artists are constantly
reflecting the world in their art and what they are experiencing in
their lives. The craft of the choreography lives in the how. The how is
my craft.
Our process is slow and rigorous, spread over time. I like to
spend a minimum of three years to create a production; in the first
year, the focus is really to hunt and gather material; the second year
is all about toying around; it's like we are in the realm of the absurd;
experiment, explore and then in the final year, the actual creation
finds form and expression."

"The next time you look into the mirror, just look at the way the
ears rest next to the head; look at the way the hairline grows; think of
all the little bones in your wrist. It is a miracle. And the dance is a
celebration of that miracle."
- Martha Graham

"I perform very rarely in proscenium and as a presenter, I do not use
proscenium stages due to varied reasons. Dance was never historically
presented in auditoriums, especially in this country. One way of moving
closer to the audiences is when a dancer realises they need to move
beyond the sanctified space and perform in spaces where a blurring
between the artist and the audiences can occur. The other reason is also
that auditoriums are often unaffordable in our country given that dance
doesn’t pay here. The other reason is an artistic reason which I am
very encouraged by that dance is a visual medium. So for dance,
interacting with different spaces is natural to it. It isn’t just
because of its aesthetic value but because it opens up avenues to
actually communicate with each other."
