Natya Vriksha presents WORLD DANCE DAY 2024: Saturday 20 April & Sunday 21 April 2024 @ IIC

DAY I: SATURDAY 20 APRIL 2024
9.30am to 1pm: MOVEMENT TECHNIQUES in SATTRIYA by Prateesha Suresh (with three artistes from Assam)
FREE WORKSHOP, OPEN TO DANCERS OF ALL CLASSICAL STYLES

4pm:  CELEBRATING RUKMINI DEVI ARUNDALE
To mark the 120th birth anniversary of this dance legend, Niyogi Books is publishing a volume written by scholar/author V.R. Devika. Title: Rukmini Devi Arundale, Arts Revivalist and Institution Builder. Through a ppt and video screenings, Devika will bring alive the magic of Rukmini Devi. The book will be released by Dr. Karan Singh

YOUNG DANCERS FESTIVAL
6:30pm: Bharatanatyam performance of Varnam by Vaishnavi Srinivasan and Nivedha Harish, disciples of Guru Roja Kannan

(When the Prince of Wales visited India in 1875, he attended a Bharatanatyam performance at the Royapuram Railway station in Madras. Dancer Tanjore Gnyana danced the Useni Swara Jathi. That dance, taught by devadasis to Lakshmi Vishwanathan, was then taught by Lakshmi to Vaishnavi and Nivedha. They will be dancing the same varnam).

DAY II: SUNDAY 21 APRIL 2024
9.30am to 1pm: MOVEMENT TECHNIQUES in SATTRIYA by Prateesha Suresh (with three artistes from Assam)

4pm: SEMINAR on LEGACY IN CLASSICAL DANCE

6:30pm: Mohiniattam by Thomas Vo Van Tao, disciple of Neena Prasad (A male dancer presenting Mohiniattam is a rarity!)

7:45p.m: Bharatanatyam by Meera Sreenarayanan
