 Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company & Aakash Odedra Company.present World premiere of Mehek April 4 - 19, 2024 UK Photos: Angela Grabowska February 24, 2024 After two and a half years of R&D and finally four weeks of a technical residency at the New York University, Abu Dhabi, a beautiful love story emerged on stage - between the older woman, Aditi Mangaldas and the younger man, Aakash Odedra, in the form of MEHEK. Centred around a mature woman and a younger man, the dance delves deep into their intricate characters, challenging norms and redefining the very essence of love. In this mesmerizing work, the stage transforms into a canvas where rhythmic tales of desire unfold, entwined with the elements of nature. The mirrors, akin to the calming waters of the sea, reflect the duality of their love story—the tranquil surface and the tumultuous waves beneath. Through these mirrors, the performance reveals that love is not only a personal journey within oneself but also a profound connection and exploration through the other. Derived from the Hindi word for fragrance, the title alludes to the enduring power of memory and the essence of love itself. Aditi Mangaldas, dancing the first ever duet of her 50-year career, and Aakash Odedra weave a narrative that celebrates love in all its forms: raw, authentic, and infinitely resonant.  Born out of a different sense of loss, of desolation, of dreams, of imagination, of courage, and of togetherness… MEHEK met with a standing ovation at the premiere on February 7, 2024 in Abu Dhabi. Set to a mesmerising score by Nicki Wells and accompanied by Ashish Gangani, Faraz Ahmed and Hiren Chate, MEHEK takes you on a journey to explore the human heart. With dramatic light design by Fabianna Piccioli, fascinating set design by Tina Tzoka and invaluable inputs from brilliant dramaturg Karthika Nair and dynamic rehearsal director Gaurav Bhatti, MEHEK is a poetic journey into the heart of love.
