Art Vision presents 19th Sangam Festival, a confluence of dance Rabindra Mandap, 7pm October 7, 2023 Bhubaneswar September 29, 2023 Art Vision founded by Dr. Ileana Citaristi in 1997 is organizing the 19th Sangam Festival at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar on the 7th of October. The festival has been conducted annually by Art Vision since 2005. Each year two styles of dance are presented in the same evening through innovative and creative group choreographies. While Odissi presentations by Art Vision repertory team are a constant factor, the other style varies each year. Renowned exponents of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi and Contemporary dance have been invited along the years to present their work and share the stage with Art Vision. This year the invited guest group is Dasyam Centre for Mohiniyattam founded and directed by Guru Gopika Varma. The group will present ‘Kandein Swapnam’, a choreography dealing with the many aspects of dreams through four differing narratives. The Odissi segment has two new productions choreographed by Guru Ileana Citaristi. The first, inspired by a short poem for children written by Ruskin Bond ‘Make Room for Elephants’ is meant to instil sympathy for the animal world. This is performed by Art Vision younger students. About the second one called ‘Sarira’ the choreographer says: “When I started to choreograph the song by poet Janardana Dasa on the aharya of a devadasi, depicting her ornaments, attire and dress, and describing how beautiful she was feeling wearing all these, the news of the two women disrobed and paraded naked in Manipur hit the headlines. This dance composition is my reaction and tribute to them.” Info: icitaris@gmail.com artvisionindia.com |
