Kala Pradarshini celebrates Centenary of Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Music Academy, 4pm December 4, 2022 Chennai October 29, 2022 December 4, 2022 marks the Centenary Birth Anniversary of music maestro Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao. Ghantasala was a musician par excellence - UN peace medal recipient, Padma awardee, first "Asthana Vidwan" of Thirumala Tirupathi Devesthanam and freedom fighter. His contribution and impact to the music industry are innumerable and continues to inspire young artistes till today. Despite his short life span, he sang over 25000 songs in several languages and produced several evergreen hits. Every year Kala Pradarshini curates a special event and pays tribute to his contribution to the arts by providing opportunities to more artistes. Over the years, luminaries such as Vyjayanthimala Bali, Sobha Naidu, Dhananjayans, CV Chandrasekhar etc and many young artistes have been a part of this annual spectacle. These grand events also give opportunities to the support artistes, technicians and an entire artistic ecosystem. Since 2017, Kala Pradarshini started conferring the 'Ghantasala Kala Pradarshini Puraskar' to legends who have made a significant and purposeful impact in their respective fields. Sustaining youth and opportunities: A live youth choir band 100 youngsters/child artists who will perform the songs of Ghantasala. Over 200 children will be trained across different music schools and the best among them will be selected for the main performance. In other cities Padhyalu will also be showcased. Preserving Folk arts forms: Involvement of over 9 unique folk arts from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu will be performing live. For Ghantasala-99, a special dedicated show was curated to support the folk arts across the three states. Promoting Indian classical dances: Grand finale live classical dance performance to the songs of Ghantasala by over 100 artists of Kala Pradarshini, led by Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala featuring art forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Kathak, Kathakali, Odissi etc. Gratitude to playback musicians: Grand finale tribute concert in collaboration with eminent award winning playback musicians P.Unnikrishnan, Srinivas etc. KALA PRADARSHINI was established by Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala, daughter-in-law of Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao in 1998 with the purpose of promoting and propagating Indian performing fine arts. The organization is actively involved in conducting the annual natya festivals as well as theme based micro festivals both live and online that offers opportunities to well established as well as upcoming artistes alike.
