Saroja. India Habitat Centre, Delhi, hosts this 2 days national homage to the Khokars who have dedicated not only their lives to dance but to the nation by donating 7 crore worth of India’s biggest dance collection to the nation@IGNCA. Madras Kadirvelu Saroja, 92, passed away in June 2022 and maintained the beauty of a rare bani - of Chidambaram Muthukumaran Pillai. She was mentored by Ram Gopal and helped make Bharatanatyam global in the 1950s itself and has left a significant body of work and students worldwide. Prof. Mohan Khokar, first male student of Kalakshetra from North India, was also the founder head of MSU Baroda dance dept and later head of SNA. His 7 definitive books on dance are benchmarks, as also decades of writing as a historian and critic. Their legacy continues in many ways and safe with those who genuinely believe in values given by them. attenDance yearbook is one lasting legacy, the 22 year issue guest edited by Ranee Kumar will be launched on the occasion by Prof Bharat Gupt, the thinker-philosopher and Natyashastra expert and the first copy received by conservation icon Aman Nath. Gurus and gyanis like Saroja Vaidyanathan, Drs.Radha & Raja Reddy, Shovana Narayan, Meera Das, Nalini- Kamlini sisters and Rajendra Gangani will give oral tributes in person while on screen Padma Subrahmanyam, late Birju Maharaj and many others will.
