Balasaraswati loved good food and was an excellent cook,
despite heavy restrictions in her own diet (salt and sugar free diet
prescribed by her doctor) due to ill health. Her classes were often

Bala delighted in flowers and would order baskets of fresh jasmine from
the flower market. After class, she would braid her students’ long
