Renowned Kathakali maestro Madavoor Vasudevan Nair
collapsed and died during a stage performance in Kollam in Kerala in Feb
2018. The 88-year-old artist was performing the mythological character
Ravana, the antagonist in the epic Ramayana, at the Agasthyakood
Mahadeva temple when he felt uneasiness and collapsed on stage. Though
he was rushed to the hospital, he had passed away by then. The earlier
month, noted Ottanthullal exponent Kalamandalam Geethanandan collapsed
and died while performing at a temple in Irinjalakkuda in Thrissur. |
The technology of recording sound separately came a decade after talkies
films when a new breed of artistes, playback singers, appeared on the
scene. There were occasions when owing to the dearth of singing actors,
