The Rudraksha tree is called "Elaeocarpus Ganitrus Roxb" in the botanical world and seeds from the fruit of this tree are the mystical Rudraksha. The clefts on the surface of this bead are called Mukhis (faces). The islands of Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Bali and Timor, in modern day Indonesia and certain parts of Nepal are home to the magnificent Rudraksha tree. About 70 percent beads are found in Indonesia, 25 percent in Nepal and 5 percent in India. Traditionally, Rudraksha beads are used by yogis and monks, especially during spiritual practices. The beads empowered them to experience spectacular control over the mind and helped them in prolonged meditation.
