| Vihāra Dance Residency Living the Dance at Nrityagram, Bengaluru Apply by May 24, 2026 Residency 1: Aug 1 - Sept 30, 2026 ![]() Vihāra, a newly launched, fully funded residency for Indian classical dancers. A residency for practice, pause, and possibility, in its own rhythm. Vihāra emerges from a simple need - time. Time to remain with one's dance, without the usual demands of rehearsal cycles, performance timelines, or production. Set within the immersive environment of Nrityagram, the residency offers dancers time and space to engage with their practice in their own way - whether through movement, reflection, or simply being. The residency is self-directed and shaped by each dancer's individual rhythm. It is grounded in a simple understanding: that sustained engagement with dance requires time, continuity, and attention. The inaugural residency will take place between 1 August and 30 September 2026, with the second residency between 1st January - 31st March 2027. In the first year we will host 30 dancers across forms. Applications are currently open for the first residency.
