Thank you very much for your words, dancer007. They have been very encouranging for me too. I am 22 years old, and I feel that my age is a barrier to become a professional dancer. I have been dancing all my life, Flamenco dancing (I come from Spain), but not full-time, only as a hobby. I discovered Barathanatyam this summer, as I did a course here in Spain with a teacher that has learnt in India.
Now I feel dancing is the most fulfilling and satisfying activity for me, and I would like to spend more time on it, even to make it my job, my life style. But most of people surrounding me discourage me to do it because of my age (even my dance teacher says that I am too old to become a professional dancer). Morevover, I am studying a degree at University (I am finishing this year), and my family think that, as dance is not related to my university degree, it is a lost of time. Regarding to this, I think that is very intersting what dancer007 said about combining different pursuits. I would like to continue my university studies, doing a Ph.D. related to dance history, and continue dancing. So, combining dance theory and practice, university and traning-performance. But sometimes I feel really down when people say it's not possible for me to make dancing my day-to-day activity, my job, especially because of my age. And posts like yours make me feel much better. Thank you very much
P.S.: Sorry about my English, it's terrible.
