 Guru Thokchom Brindashabi Devi (1934-2018) - Sinam Basu Singh e-mail: sinambasu@gmail.com June 23, 2018  Manipuri dancer and singer, Guru Thokchom Brindashabi Devi, daughter of (late) Th. Thaobi Singh and (late) Th. Atolshija Devi , born on 31st March 1934 at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, Imphal, passed away on June 10, 2018. At the age of 4 she started to learn Manipuri Opera (Gouranggalila, Sansenba, Udukhol etc.) from various gurus of Manipur. For her tireless contribution in the field of Manipuri Opera, a numbers of awards were conferred on her like: Manipur State Kala Akademi Award (1989), Natya Bhusan (1999), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2007 specially for Gouranggalila, Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi Award (2009), Maipaksana Sanahal Manipur Lifetime Award (2017), Ngangom Bhanumati Devi Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award (2018). She was a visiting Guru of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, for the subject of Gouranggalila and Sansenba and also president and founder of The All Manipur Gouranggalila and Sansenba Artist Association, Imphal.
