Arjun Mishra passed away on October 22, 2015 on the auspicious Dussera day in a nursing home in Lucknow. He has been seriously ill with bone cancer and related issues. Pt. Arjun Mishra was an ace disciple of Kathak samrat Birju Maharaj, who suggested he go to Lucknow to help revive the declining fortunes of Lucknow gharana of Kathak in Lucknow itself. Within a decade Pt. Arjun Mishra trained many and helped establish Kathak of high standards. He trained many of whom his son and successor, Anuj Mishra shines like a polished gem. In him and his sisters Smriti and Kantika rests the lifetime work of Pt Arjun Mishra. He leaves behind many grief stricken fans and friends. May his soul rest in peace. He died young at under 60 years of age but leaves behind a rich legacy. No national honour came his way. His award is his scores of students who bring him and his Art eternal glory. Ashish Mohan Khokar is a reputed dance historian, biographer, critic and author. He edits and publishes the dance yearbook Attendance.
