Josyula Krishnamurthy is no more - Tadepalli Satyanarayana e-mail: kuchipudi.bhagavathamelam@gmail.com September 2, 2014 Kuchipudi artist / musician Josyula Krishnamurthy passed away in the early hours of September 1, 2014 around 2.30am at his residence. He was 86 years old. Krishnamurthy who started his art journey initially as a dancer, essaying mostly the Sakhi roles was more interested in the music aspect of Kuchipudi Yakshaganam and is a very well known mridangam artist. He specialised in Sampradaya Kuchipudi Yakshaganam talas / music and has the honour of accompanying over 8000 programs during his life time. He was an integral part of Venkatrama Kala Mandali and associated with Vedantam Satyanarayana Sarma, the doyen of Kuchipudi. Krishnamurthy was a Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and was also honoured by the Tamil Nadu Government with a Golden Bracelet. Till recently he was part of the examiners of the Telugu University, Kuchipudi, and was also part of the teaching faculty team. Krishnamurthy is survived by his wife, daughter and three sons. One of his sons is part of the Chennai Kalakshetra. With him, one of the chapters of Sampradaya Yakshaganam music is over and it is a great loss for the art world.
