Doyen among natyacharyas, he was known for his brisk jathis with crisp variations, for both singing and conducting the nattuvangam with amazing clarity. Guru S K Rajarathnam Pillai has been looked up to by the dancing community, and his numerous students are scattered all over the world. Conferred with the titles of Kalaimamani, Natya Selvam and Sangeetha Kala Sikamani, he was an acclaimed teacher of his times, propagating the Vazhuvoor style of Bharatanatyam. He was not only known for his talent, but also for his humble and friendly nature. This helped him share a wonderful relationship with his students and his colleagues. His 77th birth anniversary falls on July 3, 2007. On this occasion, the shishyas of this great guru have decided to pay homage to their revered 'Vadyar,' as they all fondly call him. RAJARATHNAM RESTROSPECTIVE is a dance festival in which his prime disciples pay homage to their guru by dancing once again to his original voice. This is sure to bring back fond memories of a golden era, not only to his students but also to the entire dance and music community. This festival will take place on the stage of Narada Gana Sabha main hall, under the auspices of Fine Arts Foundation.
