Maithreem Bhajatha - The lofty ideals of the UN Charter
- VP Dhananjayan

August 15, 2023

United Nations Charter (UN Charter) compiled by Dr. V. Raghavan, blessed by Poojyasri Kanchi Mahaswami Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi, in Samskritam couplets tuned by Vasant Desai, rendered by Bhaarat Ratna M.S. Subbalakshmi at the United Nations General Assembly, New York, in the year 1966, is an everlasting chant which should be included into the curriculum of educational institutions of the member countries of the UN.

MAITHREEM BHAJATHA
Millions, who sing this chant, wrongly attribute the authorship to Kanchi Paramachaarya. Actually it is written by Dr.V.Raghavan - a great Samskritam scholar, the illustrious father of Bharatanaatyam exponent Nandini Ramani. Hope people will correct themselves and hereafter give the credit only to Dr. V. Raghavan. Of course, Paramachaarya approved of the poem and blessed him.

Cultivate friendship which will conquer all hearts.
Look upon others as thyself.
Renounce war, forebear competition.
Give up aggression on others which is wrong.
Wide mother earth, our mother is here ready to give us all our desires.
We have the Lord - our Father - compassionate to all.
Oh! People of the world restrain yourself, give and be kind to all.
May all people be happy and prosperous.

We wish the member countries of the UN follow the charter to bring peace and prosperity to the entire world.
