Ghantasala 99 - Folk Art Festival

Every year, Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala, through her organization Kala Pradarshini, curates a special event as a tribute to her father-in-law and provides opportunities to artistes to perform. Over the years luminaries such as Vyjayanthimala Bali, Dhananjayans, CV Chandrasekhar, Saroja Vaidyanathan, Leela Samson, etc. and many young artistes have been a part of this annual spectacle. Apart from the Annual Ghantasala Tribute, Kala Pradarshini has also been conducting an Annual Natya festival. This event has been going on for over two decades and has been able to offer opportunities to over 4,000 performing artistes and over 10,000 supporting artistes and allied back stage staff. The main aim of the organization is to promote and propagate the arts of India and Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala has been making determined strides in that direction.

The focus of the Ghantasala 99 tribute this year is on the folk arts and artistes, who have been severely impacted by the pandemic and the effects of the prolonged lockdown. Over 50 folk artistes from Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been selected for the performances. There are various folk art forms that have been showcased including Dappatu, Banjara. Many of them were forced to give up their art and resort to various forms of manual labour, just to make ends meet in the last couple of years. Kala Pradarshini will be showcasing through their various social media platforms, the talents of these folk artistes in the Ghantasala 99 - Folk Art Festival on the 4th of December 2021, which is the brainchild and conceptualized by Parvathi's son Mohinder Ghantasala.

The tribute will also include the presentation of the KALA PRADARSHINI GHANTASALA PURASKAR to individuals who have made purposeful and significant impact in their respective fields. This year the recipients of the award are: K. Viswanath (Director), Dr. L. Subramaniam (violin maestro) and Dr. Vedantam Radhesyam (Kuchipudi exponent).

The GHANTASALA 99 - FOLK ART FESTIVAL will premiere on the 4th of December 2021, 20:00 (IST) - 9:30 (EST) - 14:30 (UK) on YouTube channel Kala Pradarshini.
