krishna is probably the most popular subject in dance drama or
classical dance. manipuri form of dance is based mainly on krishna and
so is odissi. plenty of items can be seen in kuchipudi and bharatanatyam.
krishna signifies a cult. so a popular topic with lot of true mythological
stories and some made up, not so true ones. stories on krishna give a lot
of scope for abhinaya, be it abt his childhood, youth , or more later of
bhagvad gita times. for srigaara rasa- krishna is ultimate and so is his
childhood.
the kalindi mardana where krishna dances, signifies his imprtant place
in dance too.
for the one who preached 'karmanye vadhi..'the asthapadis are abt him
in different bhavas, thus giving the artist a lot of challenge and pleasure
in performing.
there is something very peculiar, exciting, adorable, intriging and
extremely enchanting abt krishna, which i am yet to findout, and this makes
the art very magnetic to this subject. personally i feel, krishna has all
the emotions of a man and that where one can relate to his actions, and
being highly intellectual to change the course of thinking-makes him worshipped.
chanchalam manaha krishna- my heart is fickle(chanchal), or can be
a fickle(chanchal) heart means krishna, such is his charm and suspense.
krishna is a subject a cult- delve and u r immersed in the ocean.
i hope iam of some help to u.
