Just to balance the point of view, I think the student also has to learn to be sensitive to the teacher and think about how the teacher will feel passing on all lessons. It is human to feel insecure..If the teacher does not feel like passing on the lessons to that particular student, i think the student should let go and not hold grudge.
Just giving time to the teacher to show you are sincere and not attempting to monetize her lessons to her detriment will put her at ease. Sometimes, the teacher wants to test the strength of your desire in upholding her traditions and style. This can be really painful. But you will win over her in the end, i hope! I talk from my personal experience. not theory..
It is better for the student to not learn the lessons that the teacher does not readily teach - in the interest of preserving the relationship with this teacher. The student can learn the dance from some other teacher or simply do without it or learn through self study. Not perfect, but better than burning bridges with the teacher.
But really I wish teachers can be more generous to the students particularly when they are serious and when they are young and are capable of challenging their physical form to build the foundations of the careers. Also, I hope they are not just partial to their children but give everyone a fair chance. They should look at all their students as torchbearers of their individual dance regardless of their offsprings' talent.
