Kalakshetra to perform at ISKCON festival
The Kalakshetra Foundation of Chennai is presenting a series of dance dramas at Krishna Shrungar, a dance festival hosted by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Bangalore in September. The six day dance festival will have episodes from Srimad Bhagavatham including Rukmini Kalyanam, Bhakta Jayadeva, Andaal Sarithram, Kurmaavataram, Kuchelopakhyanam, and Dasaru Kanda Krishna from 21 st to 26th September 2006 at ISKCON premises, Rajajinagar, Bangalore. Of these Dasaru Kanda Krishna is a brand new production of Kalakshetra and is being premiered at the ISKCON dance festival.
Choreographed by the late Rukmini Devi Arundale, each episode of two hours duration, has music composed by eminent musicians of yesteryears such as Mysore Vasudevacharya, Papanasam Sivan, etc. A 45-member troupe from Kalakshetra consisting of senior dancers under the stewardship of its director Leela Samson, is performing these episodes. The presentation has been critically acclaimed for its attention to detail in choreography, the music and impeccable production.
For the first time, Kalakshetra is presenting Dasaru Kanda Krishna, a unique dance drama eulogizing Krishna from the perspective of Purandara dasa and Kanakadasa, the devout composers from Karnataka. The former director of Kalakshetra, S. Rajaram is the music director for this episode, which is being dramatized with the choicest of 12 songs composed by these great lyricists.
