assuming you have trained since a tender age and are an excellent dancer now and practice for 3 hours daily, and you move to the US either for further studies, or because of marriage etc., would you become one of the local American dancers who needs to be educated on real bharatanatyam? I would not think so...
Or are you talking about the Indians who are born to parents who migrated here and learn bhartanatyam from local and visiting teachers? I agree that many of them would not have the same depth of knowledge as you would being in India... However, you should note that many of these are the attendees of the workshops taught by visiting great dancers and stay in touch with the art because they love it... even in this population, there is a real good chance that there is a not so stupid, lazy, greedy and fat dancer who could outdo the dancers trained in India or be equally good...
My point is, yes we need excellent dancers to come to the USA and present
to the audiences here. But, please do not think of the people here disrespectfully
particularly the dancing community.. most often it is a bunch of them that
will organize tours for you... if you move here and try to work with others
to organize a tour for your teacher, would you become a fat, lazy dancer
who does not know real bharatanatyam... Please keep in mind that even if
dancers here are substandard and have no clue, they have the option to
come to India to see you and other dancers do real bharatnatyam instead
of taking the trouble to bring the real bharatanatyam dance here or pay
to see your program here... more so if there are dancers of calibre living
in the US who deserve the opportunity equally well as dancers in India..
