Yes, maybe in Redmond, with not many temples and kings around, dancing is not really a well-paid full-time career.

One of the reasons "there are lots of dancers and less paying opportunities" is that 1000 years ago people who did not have any talent/skills in dance did not pretend to possess these, and did not demand to be paid for doing nothing.

Nowadays, especially in the USA, every stupid, overweight, ugly, clumsy but ambitious woman tends to decide one day that she is a great, talented classical Indian dancer (even if she does not practise at all!) - simply after watching a few dance performances.

This is very funny...
